Welcome to Afrobeats.no
Deborah Katland Wanja
Afrobeats.no now has an editorial team. Here's what you can expect from us, and what you can hold us to.
African and diasporic forms of expression are part of Norway. You may have seen performances at Rådhusplassen, danced to the music in clubs and dance studios, listened to it on your favourite streaming platforms, and enjoyed the concerts that are part of the cultural scene in Oslo.
We believe this scene deserves to be documented. It deserves journalism that follows it closely and is written with real knowledge of the music, the culture, the history and the people.
Afrobeats.no will cover afro music and performance in Norway, seen from here: the artists, the art and the stories behind them. We'll cover concerts and releases, talk to the people who make the music and lift it up, and ask the questions that come with it. Who gets space on the big stages? Who decides what gets called "afro"? And how does it shape who we are?
A few things to be clear about from the start:
- The editorial team is independent. We follow the Norwegian press codes: Vær Varsom-plakaten (the Code of Ethics of the Norwegian Press), Redaktørplakaten (the Editors' Code) and Tekstreklameplakaten (the code on advertorials and sponsored content).
- Partners don't get coverage on request, and we don't present our own events as news. When we have a connection to something we write about, we say so.
- We name our sources, and we correct our mistakes openly.
We're working on our first stories, and they'll be published here.

Again, welcome.
